Medusa Ouroboros Necklace
£35.00 GBP
A tiny version of Athena's shield, with the head of Medusa on the front and the Ouroboros symbol of eternity-- a snake eating its own tail-- on the reverse. This pewter amulet hangs from an antique silver plated brass chain and a rustic, embossed pewter connector. Necklace closes with a blackened pewter toggle clasp . This necklace is two sided and can be worn with either the snake or medusa facing forward.
In ancient Greece, amulets featuring Medusa's head were called Gorgoneions. They were worn to ward off evil. In Greek, Medusa means "protectress" and these are guardian tresses indeed. This necklace is a modern version of a gorgoneion.
This necklace is available in 3 lengths: 16" (41cm), 18" (45cm), or 20" (50cm). It is shown in the 18" length on my UK size 14 mannequin with a 14" (36cm) neck.
Medusa has come to symbolise the archetypal angry woman, with all the power that implies. Now is her time, is it not?
