Vintage Fairy Tale Shoe House Charm Necklace
£30.00 GBP
Delightfully detailed charm based on the nursery rhyme, There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.
- This vintage charm is hinged, revealing a tiny mother and three children inside the shoe house
- Even the hobnails on the boot heel are detailed!
- The charm is hallmarked with a maker's mark and silver 925
- It has a substantial weight despite it's size - a quality piece
- It hangs from an 18" or 46cm chain of recycled sterling silver
An interesting footnote on the rhyme--Irish folklorist Tomás MacCormaic suggests that the rhyme is a celebration of the Land Goddess (Mother Nature) and is a play on the Old Irish word 'Sidhbhrog', which translates as 'Fairy House'. The Irish word for Fairies is 'Sidhe', while 'Brog' translates as both 'House' and 'Shoe'.
